Our campus restored to its original glory, and better!
The ‘Tute has brought us all an early Christmas present! The fences have come down! The time it takes to get to the library has been halved! There’s gorgeous sod and oval-shaped roundabouts so students don’t have to stop for traffic. What a glorious day for RPI Students! Rejoice! Every year we shall celebrate this momentous occasion!
Not really, but we’re pretty happy…

The sod truck!
We snapped a photo of the sod truck before Thanksgiving, to give you an idea of how the VCC Quad went from being mud to a green paradise almost overnight. I always thought that grass seed and some hay was enough…
These photos (more after the jump) were sent to us by Andrew today. According to him, they ran into a little bad luck, and had to call these guys…
What you see is the remains of an underground fuel oil storage tank which has been cut in half. Sources have informed me that this oil tank dates back to before RPI owned this land, and at one time contained 35,000 gallons of #6 fuel oil. The disused tank was filled with sand to prevent the formation of a sinkhole. This sand had to be removed for decontamination, since it was mixed with the remaining oil in the tank.

It's RPI. We do math.
Have you been wondering why the VCC is under construction?
We found this information on the Physical Plant’s blog
- New concrete sidewalks and lighting for improved pedestrian safety.
- Necessary repairs to underground utilities.
- Removal of failing trees and planting of more sustainable high canopy trees.
- Installation of lighting, benches and bicycle racks.
- Improved access for emergency, delivery and service vehicles.
The good news is that we have word that at Pizza with the Cabinet, Claude Rounds (VP for Administration) said that its expected completion is before the end of the semester.
