Here is a link to a statement made by Dr. Eddie Ade Knowles, VP for Student Life, regarding the “Uprise at Five” event. There are numerous points that he makes within the release that I would consider to be flawed, blatantly wrong, or hiding behind ambiguity and vagueness. Decide for yourself though. Just in case you missed it, I’ve decided to include a few links for you…
The Troy Record has quite a nice video of the event, which ends with the very poignant singing of the alma mater.
Capital News 9 did a news story on the event. Short and sweet.
Even though Marc Parry was kicked off of campus by Jason Gorss from Media Relations (see article for citation), he spoke with the GM anyway and covered the story.
Another blogger, on Brian’s World, wrote a summary of the event.
The Facebook group has lots of pictures.
All Over Albany mentioned it in their Morning Blend today.
Barker Kelley left us a comment and mentioned that they took some good pictures of the event.

You’ve heard about it by now, no doubt. The Uprise at Five (PM) happened yesterday outside of Russell Sage Dining Hall. Students came out in force to show their dissatisfaction with the lack of input from students on administrative decisions.

We're trying to calm our fury by putting this picture of a camel with this article
Well, it seems that the straw has broken the camel’s back. The cause? Another miscommunication.
The student Residence Life staff is currently shaping up for next year and at the moment has 5 vacancies, one in each freshmen hall. ResLife has not hired any freshmen RA’s for next year, after a process which led them to believe that they would be hired based on merit, essentially being lied to by the school. All of the upperclassmen that have been up for consideration have been hired (excluding those that had been screened out by the evaluation process as “do-not-hires”). There are not enough applicants to fill all of the RA positions required, and yet all of the freshmen RA applicants have received letters placing them on the alternate list (set up in case RA’s leave to go abroad, decline their position, etc).
There will be a demonstration tomorrow entitled the “Uprise at Five” outside the Russell Sage Dining Hall at 5pm (fbook, thanks dez!), coincidentally or not, when the Board of Trustees will be eating dinner there. If you do not like recent actions by the Institute, such as those we reported here, here, here, here, here, or here, you had better be there!
Stay tuned for more, as this is just the tip of the iceberg…
