Rucking F*ckus

- No. Thank you.
Well, in true flaky Ruckus fashion, the service has mysteriously disappeared. Pitched as a viable solution to rampant piracy in colleges, I guess the obnoxious ads that apparently funded my late night music binges weren’t nearly effective enough. However, Ruckus doesn’t even cite financial reasons for its folding. They told us nothing. We aren’t the only people to be disappointed and a little pissed.
Tech blog TechCrunch had this to say about your licenses:
We’re told that music that has not passed its “renew date†still works, but that music that has expired will no longer work because the DRM licensing server has apparently shut down.
Goodbye Ruckus. My relationship with you was love/hate at best.
What was there before Ruckus for college students? OurTunes was popular, but doesn’t work with the current version of iTunes.
Enter Mojo. With versions for the PC or Mac, Mojo seems to step in where OurTunes left off, providing internet or LAN based iTunes library sharing. And since the RIAA is no longer suing individuals for downloading music, you might find yourself slightly more willing to risk it.
Recording artists have to make a living off of their music. So if you like what you hear, fiscally support the band.
