After all of the hubbub on SNL, the RPI Student Health Center has come out with its own videos. Based on how they plan on treating students during the CLASS Initiative rollout in the coming year, they made these videos as a sign of how they plan on communicating with RPI students, who have been determined to now need adult supervision in the residence halls. Just kidding… but they’re funny anyway. They’re actually from the Department of Health and Human Services of the federal government. Elmo is after the jump.
Dr. Lawrence’s latest email has a few highlights: we’re up to 137 total cases of H1N1, and we currently have 37 active cases. He says that the caseload has remained constant for a couple of weeks, and recommends that if you feel sick that you stay in as much as possible. Be nice to your classmates — don’t go out sick! He also explains why they aren’t prescribing Tamiflu.
Also, the H1N1 vaccine won’t be on campus until about October 30th.

Re: H1N1 Update
As of October 21, we have experienced 137 cases of influenza among
students on the Troy campus. Some 37 students have active cases of the
illness. Of those, nine are in isolation rooms and 28 are recuperating
at home with their families. The remaining 100 students are fully
recovered. In addition, several faculty and staff members have reported
influenza-like illnesses.
See the latest text from Dr. Lawrence, who says that the H1N1 vaccine should be here in about a week. We have also hit 64 cases so far! Woo! Full text after the jump.

In an email just sent out to the RPI Community, Dr. Lawrence of the Student Health Center has announced that RPI has more active cases of H1N1 than it has had at any point so far this season. Seven of the students are being isolated on campus. The Health Center recommends that students refrain from drinking games to halt the spread of the virus. The full text is below.

This is an illustrative device to show you how your favorite RPI blog reports on stuff before the other guys.
So it seems that our top-notch uber-serious reporting has beat the local news by just under a week. We reported our first case of H1N1 last Friday, and that the magic number of cases that the local media requires before they swarm campus is 5. There have been 5 reported cases of alleged H1N1 on campus. Our favorite comment by “real” media? Tweeted by @WTEN: “Swine flu has reached the RPI campus….but youll be surprised on how students are laxed about it.” What good is fear and panic? Damn straight RPI.
An email was leaked to us which outlines details about today’s student who was diagnosed with Swine Flu. The student has now been moved to Blitman Commons.
Please take all necessary precautions. You can find more information about how to keep yourself safe at http://www.rpi.edu/about/flu/
UPDATE: We are still receiving information from various sources that there has been a case, but we’re waiting on written confirmation. Hand sanitizer stations have been installed in several (possibly all) residence halls.
RPInsider has received multiple reports of a case of swine flu on campus. We are waiting for confirmation on this. As soon as details are available, we will let you know.
Please remember to wash your hands and take all of the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe.
