I hope you like dancing. (Diplo AND Girl Talk in the same night?!)

April 30th, 2010

Sorry. We got a little excited.

We can stop crossing off our calendars today. It’s finally April 30th. Gregg Gillis Girl Talk and Wesley Pentz Diplo will be gracing two of RPI’s newest “platforms” (ECAV and EMPAC) tonight.

Friday April 30

Girl Talk at the ECAV Arena. Tickets are sold out, but there’s a chance that someone is selling them on the facebook group. Doors at 8:30 show starts at 9:30 pm. From what we hear it has the potential to be a grossly epic sweat/dancefest, so dance appropriately.

Diplo helps kick off the intriguing onedotzero festival (at 11pm), in its second year at EMPAC. Diplo tickets are sold out, but “the cafe will be bumping with a larger-than-life 40′ HD feed  for those that are curious / up late / didn’t snag a ticket”. If that doesn’t suit you, we do have 2 free press tickets available if you’d like to write us up a review after the show (email us for details). Festival passes are still available for $10. The doors open at 8pm: the installations will be on-going, there are two wild screenings, and the cafe will be open with food and beverage from the folks at the Epicurean.

Shabbat Dinner with RPI-Sage Hillel is being sponsored by the Mahler family.  Starts at 7 and it’s free! [FB]

It’s Troy Night Out!  Get downtown between 5 and 9 to check out all that Troy has to offer. The West Route of the RedHawk Shuttle will take you to monument square.

If you’d like to do more studying, UPAC Cinema has Eli’s Book available for viewing  at 3 times tonight (7, 9:30, and midnight). What’s that? Oh. Apparently it’s a movie called the Book of Eli. Nevermind the studying bit…

The New York State Collegiate Track Conference is having its outdoor championship beginning at 1 PM on the Harkness Field. [RPIAthletics]

Urinetown is playing tonight at 8 PM at the RPI Playhouse.  Tickets are $5 with RPI ID.[FB]

We’re going on week 5 of the semester (6 for you freshmen), and as I was going through my email archives, found a “Welcome back to campus” email from Dr. Jackson sent at the beginning of last fall. For those freshmen who weren’t privy to this email last year, I have included it below, with a few updates.

Transit Trophy Win

September 27th, 2009

We don’t usually do sports posts, because there’s just too many teams for us to keep track of, but here’s a quick update.

The RPI Engineers kept their football record at a perfect 3-0 by defeating WPI 42-33.  The RPI-WPI game is played annually and called the Transit Trophy (named after a civil engineering tool).   This is RPI’s 13th consecutive season winning the Transit Trophy.  The Engineers will play in the Homecoming game after the Grand Opening of ECAV at 1 PM.  Keep it up, team!

Maybe there’s something to making freshmen players sing in commons…

All Teams Now to Be Engineers

September 1st, 2009

The new standard across-the-board logo

No more Red Hawks, no more RPI Bullet, just the RPI Engineers with the logo above.  This word was leaked to us by a Student Senator who received the information from Kevin Beattie, the Associate Athletic Director, who mentioned it on a tour of the East Campus Athletic Village last Friday.

We’re just fine with that.  It was pretty strange to have two mascots, anyway.

East Campus Construction

December 17th, 2008

ecav-rendering

In case you haven’t heard… the last three months have seen power, internet, and water outages in East Campus (including Stacwyck, RAHPs, BARH, and Bryckwyck).   The power outages were daily for about a week, when setting alarm clocks became a waste of time.

In fact, so many students missed their alarms that some residents of Stacwyck began a petition which received over 100 signatures!  One of the leaders of the petition, Patrick Boldrighini, sent an email to the residents of Stacwyck:

…The organizers of the petition met with Lisa Trahan, the Interim Director of Residence Life to discuss the petition.  … Residence Life will not compensate us financially for the inconveniences of the ECAV project.  She did however promise to increase communication between the RPI Campus Planning. …  She also said that Residence Life would attempt to influence the scheduling of work to times when it is more convenient for students. …They would also like to do something for us at the start of spring semester.  They would appreciate any ideas (they are currently thinking of a pizza party).

A pizza party?  Really?  Read more…
