Spotted: New Hall Hall Apartment

February 17th, 2010

"Good fences make good neighbors"

Most of you have probably seen this already, but in case you haven’t been to Freshman Hill lately, this is a photo of the new apartment which is attached to Hall Hall.  As part of the CLASS Initiative, the Assistant Deans in Residence Life will live in residence halls.  To facilitate this, they’ve built apartments on Hall Hall and Crockett Hall.  What are your thoughts about staff living in residence halls?

Walk to talk about housing?

January 28th, 2010

Apparently, Monopoly houses = RPI residence halls?

You may have heard of a few changes to housing at RPI coming our way. You also might be one of the more than 1200 members in the Facebook group “Students Against RPI Housing Reform” Well, your elected student leaders hear you. The following is a response from GM Michael Zwack:

Hi Everyone,
I’ve been following the comments for most of the break and was wondering how both myself and the Student Senate could capture what everyone is trying to say to bring to Student Life.
I’m hosting a informal discussion about the housing process at 8pm on Thursday in the Student Government Suite (3rd floor of the Student Union), it would be great if anyone with comments to share would stop by!
Thanks,
The GM

There is a Facebook event here. If you’d like to talk with the people that represent you, this event might be worth your while!

Here's the skinny...

Here's the skinny...

The email below was just sent from Dr. Eddie Ade Knowles, VP for Student Life, and Mr. Claude Rounds, Vice President for Administration, to Rensselaer students.  This is a long-awaited email that outlines the housing selection process for the 2010-2011 year.

Here’s the skinny (in a format much easier to read than the long email…):

Elmo Knows Best! You Should Get a Flu Shot!

October 24th, 2009

After all of the hubbub on SNL, the RPI Student Health Center has come out with its own videos.  Based on how they plan on treating students during the CLASS Initiative rollout in the coming year, they made these videos as a sign of how they plan on communicating with RPI students, who have been determined to now need adult supervision in the residence halls.  Just kidding… but they’re funny anyway.  They’re actually from the Department of Health and Human Services of the federal government.  Elmo is after the jump.

The Boiled Down Email from Eddie.

June 16th, 2009

So, you probably got that extremely long email about the CLASS initiative if you have an RPI email (if not, it’s below!).  But, you also probably didn’t read it or didn’t want to.  There isn’t very much new in the email, but I thought it would be nice to give you the highlights, so here you go:

  • CLASS = Clustered Learning Advocacy and Support for Students, and it starts this fall.
  • Tom Tarantelli of the CDC is now acting Assistant VP for Student Life and Janette Fayelle is the Acting Dean for FYE
  • CLASS is based on residential clusters with all types of students and some faculty living with the students
  • In the Fall of 2010, all sophomores will be required to live on campus or in greek life, so that they feel like they “belong.”
  • The new Blitman Commons Residence Hall opened downtown.  They didn’t mention that it is being used for conferences this summer.
  • More “Student Life Signature Events” to come at EMPAC such as Bela Fleck.

Pretty simple really!  Nothing new in this email, but at least they’re trying to make sure everyone does have access to what little information there is available.
