DOT Head and CivE Alum Honored in TU

March 8th, 2010

Stanley Gee '71 in the Times Union this morning.

Stanley Gee graduated from RPI in 1971with a Civil Engineering Degree.  Naturally, he went on to work for the Federal Highway Administration for 25 years, and the Big Dig in Boston.  After retiring, he was brought to work as the Deputy Commissioner for the New York State Department of Transportation in 2007.  When Commissioner Glynn retired in April 2008, Gee became the Acting Commissioner.

Now he’s the one who has to deal with trying to run the DOT in the face of huge budget cutbacks.

We thought it would be nice to post this to honor one of our esteemed alumni, and to give you an idea of what’s ahead after graduation.  Maybe.

Trustee, Myles Brand `64 Passes Away

September 16th, 2009

Rensselaer Trustee, Myles Brand `64 has passed away Wednesday due to Pancreatic cancer. He was 67. Brand was best known for being the president of the NCAA, and was the first former university president to run the body. During his time there he “worked to change the perception that wins supersede academics and earned accolades for his efforts“.

More here and here.

Don’t know where Dr. Jackson was with this one, but I’d expect an email within the next few days. (Maybe she was getting ready for Obama to be in town?)

Shout-out to all the Alumni!

April 10th, 2009

hi-hello-aloha-124

So looking at our Google Analytics the other day, we noticed that we have quite a few views from outside the Capital District. It didn’t really click until we got an email from the President of the DC-Baltimore Alumni Chapter, Nagesh Rao: Alums might be reading!

I don’t know if you students out there ever have checked out the RPI Alumni site, but there are tons of networking events that you could take advantage of. If you’re ever visiting a city that you don’t know, email or call an alum in the area. There are tons of alumni out there who would be wiling to have lunch with you, or show you around the city. Who knows, you might even get a job interview out of it! Each chapter also host events that you could attend.

Something cool that the DC-Baltimore Chapter is doing is profiling alums from around the nation’s capital. This semester’s spotlight? Sr VP and Provost at University of Maryland, Nariman Farvardin.
