Intrahall Squatting Revoked

December 20th, 2008

So much for “the CLASS Initiative will not affect current students” (Dr. Knowles)…

Residence Life emailed all on-campus residents to inform them that intra-hall squatting rights will be revoked.  Residents were told that they will be able to squat their room (for this year…), but that they won’t be able to squat their hall.

What does this have to do with CLASS?  When sophomores are required to live on campus (one of the tenets of the CLASS Initiative), we’re going to be short a couple hundred beds.  How do you make sure sophomores get preference?  Do away with squatting rights!  Don’t believe us?

Here’s a quote from the email sent by Shannon Hitchcock:

…This change will begin a transition to an all lottery system in the future to accommodate the Sophomore Year Experience program.

Student rights… always #1 at RPI.
