A Quick Look at Randi Mogul

April 30th, 2010

An email sent from Dr. Eddie Ade Knowles this morning indicates that Randi Mogul has been hired as an Assistant Dean of Residence Life.  The full text is below, but a quick google search turned a couple of things up, and we thought we’d share.  Even more after the jump.

NEW STAFF COUNCIL VICE PRESIDENT RANDI MOGUL STAFF COUNCIL

We can’t verify that the following is from the same Randi Mogul, but it’s a fairly unusual name, and she references SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Cortland, where our Randi Mogul did in fact attend and work.  It provides a little insight about a personal interest.

My name is Randi Mogul. I am not a contributing writer to WHOOSH, nor have I ever written any article about the show. However, I would like to talk about how XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS has changed my life, from ordinary TV going person to obsessed Xenaholic whose life has never been the same since the show first aired. I am the quiet Xenite. I am on most of the mailing lists as a lurker and I have been to one convention, the first one in New York City.

[02] I have been watching the show since its inception and everyone who knows me is well aware of the XENA shrine that is in my apartment. PowerStar especially loves me with all the business I have lavished on them. I just wanted to share a quick story of how this show has truly affected my life.

[03] When I was a Resident Assistant at SUNY [State University of New York] New Paltz, one the channels was hosting a STAR TREK marathon and I remember hanging out with some of the people and hosting it as a program. As soon as an episode came on, they knew right away which episode it was, the title, air date, guest star, etc. I remember thinking, how in the world can they do that? Now I understand because I can do the same thing, but with XENA. I am now a Resident Hall Director at SUNY Cortland in central New York and everything is Xenatized in my life, computer, apartment, office, etc.

[04] The one time I tell my RA staff not to bother me unless the building is burning down is when a new XENA episode is on. I am so happy the show was created because it has really added much joy and happiness to my life. I love seeing such a strong role model that young women can relate to and I not only is Lucy Lawless great, but I must confess I am an even bigger Renee O’Connor fan. She is the best and easily my favorite TV actress. I only rue the day that this fabulous show ends, but of course having every episode on tape will keep me busy for the next millenium!

Here’s the text from Dr. Knowles:

From:  Eddie Ade Knowles, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Life

Re:    New Assistant Dean Appointed

Following a national search, Ms. Randi Mogul, an experienced student
life professional, has been appointed to the position of assistant dean
of the residential commons in the Division of Student Life, effective
May 3.

In the months and years ahead, Rensselaer is focused on implementing the
“CLASS” initiative. “Clustered Learning, Advocacy, and Support for
Students” aims to transform the student experience by elevating the
quality of support for students throughout the undergraduate
years. Statistics show that in addition to a quality academic program,
students are looking for positive life experience opportunities in their
search for a quality university.  In her new role, Ms. Mogul will help
implement CLASS and oversee the delivery of high-quality experiential
student residence life programs that build community. She will
coordinate and oversee programming initiatives, as well as living and
learning and theme housing. She will also provide outreach counseling,
personal assistance, and academic advising for students in the
residential commons, and collaborate with Public Safety, residential
commons staff, and other Institute offices to ensure the safety of all
students in residence. Additional responsibilities include serving as a
Judicial Hearing Officer for student disciplinary cases referred by the
Dean of Students Office, and working on special assignments or
initiatives within Student Life and other Institute portfolios.

Ms. Mogul has more than 14 years of experience working in residence life
at other institutions, including the State University of New York
campuses at Delhi, Oneonta, and Cortland, as well as Cazenovia College,
Jacksonville University, and the University of Texas at Dallas. She has
held several other positions, including serving as a resident director,
community coordinator, and residence life coordinator. Ms. Mogul has
experience with the judicial processes that include the implementation
of all policies of the judicial handbook, and serving as a hearing
officer. She has also developed a training program for community
advisers, counseled and advised students in an academic setting, and
developed programming in residence halls.

Ms. Mogul has a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University
of New York at New Paltz. She comes to Rensselaer from the University of
Texas at Dallas, where she served as a residential life coordinator for
nearly seven years, and was closely involved in developing a residential
college model. She is a member of the Association of College and
University Housing Officers and the Committee for the Support of
Diversity and Equity.

Residence Life is now staffed with four assistant deans of the
residential commons. They will work with the class dean, two faculty
deans of the residential commons, and upperclass staff and graduate
student resident assistants to provide programming opportunities for
students under the CLASS initiative.

Please join me in welcoming Randi Mogul to Rensselaer.
