Hockey Heads to Harvard and Hanover

February 12th, 2010

The Hockey team is hoping to pass Saint Lawrence University in the ECAC standings, who are currently in fourth place.  The top four teams get a bye on the first round of playoffs.

Last weekend, the team managed a 3-3 tie from behind against Saint Lawrence(they were losing 2-3 in the third), and eked out a 2-1 win over Clarkson (who were beaten 11-2 by Union the night before).

RPI is looking for a pair of wins this weekend against Harvard tonight and Dartmouth tomorrow, who don’t have a great record.  According to the Troy Record article, the teams have combined to win  just 12 out of 46 games.  Harvard is on a two-game losing streak and Dartmouth stands 11 out of 12 teams in our conference.  The engineers are 6-5-1 on the road.

The Engineers’ season has been filled with close games.  They have outscored their opponents 89-82 overall but 48-36 in conference play.  Of the Engineers’ conference losses, 4 out of 6 have been by just one point (with another 3-1 loss against Union that was 2-1 until an empty-net goal).

RPI tied 3-3 the last time they played Harvard in a heart-breaker which included a Harvard goal with 2.3 seconds remaining in the third period, and they beat Dartmouth 2-1.  The Engineers certainly hope to beat both teams this time around
