Someone special is here to see you
The thinker-in-chief is due to visit Troy next monday!
Well this is big news. It seems that on Monday, the capital district will be getting a special visit from a certain “commander-in-chief”. The big O (that’s Obama, not Oprah) will be in Troy at HVCC around 11am to give a speech on the “emerging economic and high tech jobs in the region’s economy“. HVCC’s opening of a solar energy training center at the Luther Forest Technology Campus will certainly be mentioned. Secret Service agents have been spotted at Albany International scoping out the site for the presidential visit. It would have been awesome if Dr. Jackson could have pulled some strings and gotten him here for a bit. She is on PCAST after all. No word on whether or not the appearance will be open to the public. We’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Rumor has it: that Dr. Jackson WILL be attending Obama’s HVCC gig on Monday; that she DID put in a favorable word for RPI via PCAST; that the execs at Luther Forest also put in a strong recommendation for Obama to visit RPI; but that the word from the White House was that, for this trip, and this speech, the President specifically wanted to speak from a community college (one of his pet projects for increasing general education, improving job qualifications, etc.). Rumor also has it that if Obama had visited RPI on this trip, that would have cooked the university goose for any later visits (I guess you only get one Presidential nod per term ..?), and we would have had no time to prepare; so maybe it’s better to bring him by another time.
