Hockey Line Countdown Begins
September 1st, 2009

Today, the RPI Hockey Line countdown begun. The Hockey Line is an annual tradition, sponsored by the Student Senate and Student Union, which began in 1973, according to the library’s website. As students camp out for the next two weeks (tickets go on sale on September 15th at 11:30 PM), they will be graced with the presence of a brand-new LED countdown which counts the days, hours, minutes, seconds, and even hundredths of seconds until the first tickets will be sold. The sign was handmade by the Web Technologies Group of the Student Senate.
Kudos, webtech. This RPI tradition is one of the ones near to our hearts. Let’s keep it alive and fun!
This is a better link to the Timeline of Rensselaer History entry for the Hockey Line: http://www.lib.rpi.edu/dept/library/html/Archives/timeline/1977.html Stay tuned for an upcoming RPI History Revealed post about the history of the Hockey Line tradition!
Credit where credit is due: members of the RPI Electronics Club also participated extensively in the construction of the sign, as noted on the accompanying banner. Thanks for the mention!
