Free Laundry!

August 13th, 2009

We got a tip that laundy is going to be free next year in the residence halls, and we checked it out.  Turns out that according to ResLife, it’s true!  We also noticed that some of the residence halls have brand new machines (which makes sense if they’re free now) — Quad for sure.
Thanks, RPI!

What about the bigger, more evil news that Lofts now cost $129 to rent? You’re also no longer allowed to build your own loft!

I’m on the same page as Reilly. Free laundry doesn’t make up for the pricey and restrictive new loft policy. While I understand the institute is interested in reducing risk and liability, this commenter believes that if you can’t build a safe loft at RPI maybe you shouldn’t be attending such a ‘technical school’.

Do we always have to see the glass as half empty? Having non-coin operated laundry is smart policy and I am glad Res Life finally adopted it. Now if we could actually get the slobs to remove their stuff from the machines after a couple of days, it would be great.

This is good news, but what I’m more concerned about is that RPI doesn’t really announce any of this news. I just happened to stumble across this and notified you guys at RPInsider. There have been other situations where RPI failed to notify us of important changes, and it really isn’t that hard to send us all an e-mail notifying us of changes in a timely manner so we know what to expect.

    Yeah,

the machines in Sharp became free over the summer.
I think it was a good move, since I doubt they were making much money off of them, especially with the added maintenance costs. And, it appeases the students, perhaps. I think with all the excess charges and fees we have to put up with, this is only a very small step.

OH and yeah the old quad machines sucked. I had 2 break in a row last year while I was using them.

The ResLife website had a banner on its front page bragging about it, but honestly… who visits the Reslife site aside from at lottery time?
