Skidmore Goes Green With Trayless Everydays; RPI Couldn’t Even Do Tuesdays
Check out this article from the New York Times. Apparently, going trayless in dining halls is “sort of the hot thing right now.” It has now been proven to eliminate food waste at RIT and Cornell. So, we have a Student Sustainability Task Force and Ecologic on campus. Why do we still have trays?
Any of you who were students in the 07-08 academic year no doubt remember Trayless Tuesdays, an attempt by Sodexo to bring RPI to the forefront of this green trend, but it was met with amazing student opposition, rivaled in force only by the Uprise at Five (okay, maybe it wasn’t THAT bad, but it’s rare that the enitre campus gets talking about one issue!).
I doubt any of the student government leaders would be willing to take on something as unpopular as Trayless Tuesdays, so it must be up to the SSTF and/or Ecologic if they think it’s a good idea. It’s one more chance to make RPI more sustainable.
